The One Show: Alex Jones in tears as husband Charlie surprises her in emotional video montage ahead of maternity leave

Alex Jones was left in tears as her husband, Charlie Thompson, joined a host of loved ones and famous pals in a video montage on tonight’s instalment of the One Show.

The presenter is set to welcome her third child with the insurance broker in the next few weeks, and will be off our screens to spend time with her adorable family.

The BBC series will also be going on a temporary summer break, but Alex will not be back on the sofa until autumn.

She became very emotional as she was surprised with a sweet montage from co-stars, family members and friends ahead of her maternity leave.

Ronan Keating kicked the clip off, telling the pregnant star: ‘You deserve one big thank you, Al, you’ve been amazing this last year. You’ve been there for everybody across this country.

‘Every evening, 7pm, you’ve made us laugh, you’ve made us cry but you’ve been there, always. Thank you from everybody on team One Show.’

Viewers then took a moment to express their thanks, before Jermaine Jenas continued: ‘Alright Alex, I just wanted to say good luck with everything.

‘I bet you can’t wait to meet that beautiful little girl of yours. Don’t worry though, I’m going to be holding down the fort whilst you’re gone.

‘Since arriving, you’ve been nothing but a huge help to me so please don’t take too long, get yourself back. Alright?’

After her parents and Jason Donovan expressed their love, Charlie ended the video, ‘Hey love, bet you didn’t expect to see me on here, did you? Massively looking forward to baby number three, I’m pretty sure you are too.

‘The boys are super excited and selfishly can’t wait to have you home for a few months in the evenings. Love you doll, see you when you get home, there will be a pizza in the oven.’

Alex was visibly emotional over the surprise, joking that she cries ‘over anything’.

Speaking of her exit, she insisted that it would be ‘hard’ to leave her co-stars and viewers for the next few months.

‘Hopefully I’ll be back in the autumn,’ she concluded.

The BBC One favourite and Charlie are already parents to sons Edward and Kit, and are set to expand their brood with a baby girl in the next few weeks.

Alex shared their happy news in March with a black-and-white photo of her family clutching a board, which read: ‘Coming Soon… Baby Number 3.’

‘The best surprise ever,’ she captioned the heartwarming upload.

The One Show will be back on BBC One later in the year.
